LANTREK Explorer | |
There
can be no doubt that LANTREK Explorer is a fully featured
professional class LAN Analyser for Ethernet (10/100Mbps)
and Token Ring (4/16Mbps) networks. But what really
differentiates Explorer, apart from cost, is the look and
feel of the product and a totally fresh approach to the
system's design. |
|
LANTREK Explorer uniquely:
|
|
Requires no specialist hardware...
Operating under Windows NT/98/95, LANTREK Explorer is fully compatible with your PC. It uses the standard Microsoft NDIS driver to view your LAN through your ordinary Network Interface Card (NIC).
The intuitive GUI makes it incredibly easy to use...
Chevin leads
the field in simplifying what is often a complex
technology area and LANTREK Explorer is another classic
product born out of this philosophy. The Graphical User
Interface combines tabs and search trees ensuring that
you always know where you are in the system allowing you
to navigate around its powerful features. As with all Chevin products, LANTREK Explorer supports "Point and Shoot" operation, which means using your mouse to point at the information you want and clicking a button to view it. |
|
Information at a glance...
The master
control screen allows you to see all vital network
statistics. Activity snapshots provide instant readouts
of network utilisation using rev counter style graphics,
colour graded to provide you with information about
whether or not you are likely to have problems. History graphs show you if the current problem is just a blip or something more serious. Graphical data is supported with accurate statistics to further qualify any decisions that you may need to make. Alarms, based upon your own pre-set criteria, are conveniently listed at the bottom of the master control screen. |
|
Automatic Discovery | |
LANTREK Explorer removes the hard work of auditing your network by automatically discovering and identifying all active devices on the LAN. It sees and registers all IP addresses and differentiates between servers, clients, routers etc. LANTREK Explorer's discovery mechanism removes the hard work associated with configuring the tool each time you use it on a new network.
Helpful hints... | Up |
In addition, LANTREK Explorer provides useful hints about possible problems on your network as they occur.
Explore your network...
LANTREK
Explorer is a Windows based application and makes
excellent use of the graphical facilities offered by the
operating system. In addition, it employs standard
Windows type methods for driving the system. For example,
LAN Explorer allows you to drive live on-screen reports
using an explorer type tree structure. Call up vital statistics, detailed protocol information (including TopN), device activity charts (TopN, individual stations, Departments/Groups, type etc). Using the explorer interface you will be amazed at just how much information you can view in quick succession, essential when trouble shooting today's mission critical networks and applications. |
|
Unique and powerful conversation profiling...
LANTREK's conversation explorer allows you to centre any device (displayed as a meaningful icon) and see all its conversations. | Use your mouse to point
and shoot for more detailed statistics or even launch
automatic packet capture and decoding. Chevin products uniquely de-multiplex conversations by protocol, extremely useful when trouble shooting as problems often relate to a specific protocol in multi-protocol conversations. |
NO LONGER DO YOU HAVE TO BUILD COMPLEX PROTOCOL FILTERS BY HAND SIMPLY TO GET AT THE INFORMATION YOU NEED!
Pie charts... | |
A picture is worth a thousand words. LANTREK Explorer uses this principle to represent network activity. Using the Pie Charts you can immediately ascertain the contribution to network activity of the busiest nodes, departments, device types (workstations, servers, routers etc.) or protocols. Detailed statistical breakdown is provided for IP, TCP, UDP, ICMP, and NetWare.
LAN Wizardry? | |
LANTREK
Explorer's LAN Wizard facility conveniently lists the
essential data necessary to begin trouble shooting a
network. At glance you can see which devices have exceeded your own pre-set time out thresholds. Nodes failing to respond to requests from others, devices with duplicate IP addresses, and all devices that are issuing broadcast packets in order of volume! Useful for curing broadcast storms. The LAN Wizard also allows you to list essential data for all nodes. |
|
History... | |
LANTREK Explorer's unique history report archives network activity from the minute you launch the application. It allows you to travel back in time and identify periods for which post event analysis is required.
Reports... | |
A mass of data can be viewed using the powerful integrated reporting facilities found in "Data Lists". You can:
|
|
FREE IP Device Browser...
Having identified what you believe may be a problematic device, what better than to be able to interrogate that machine? LANTREK Explorer's IP Device Browser allows you to interrogate MIBs installed in your network-attached devices to verify whether or not your initial assumptions merit further investigation.

Recommended Machine Specification
LANTREK Explorer runs on standard PCs. For Windows 95/98 we recommend a Pentium 200MHz or above with 32M RAM. For NT a Pentium 200MHz or above with 64M RAM. LANTREK Explorer will run with most Network Interface Cards supporting the NDIS driver specification. For 10/100M Ethernet we recommend 3Com adapters, for Token Ring Madge 4/16 Smart Ring Node adapters. Token Ring adapters must be capable of running in a promiscuous mode.
